The People

  • Nicola Shipman

    OWNER, BARN MANAGER

Raised in some of the world’s biggest cities, including London, Houston and Aberdeen, Nicola had to “beg, borrow and steal” horse time.

Nicola’s vision for Old Maple Farm is to create access for horse-crazy children and adults, who, like her, feel that horses would otherwise be out of reach.

Nicola is fortunate to have studied under Jana Meyer for several years, soaking up as much as she could about Icelandic riding and horse management. A hungry learner, Nicola is constantly looking for ways to improve her management systems and horse care.

In addition to spending time with her own horses, Nicola loves teaching beginners the foundations of riding, so they can feel safe and secure. Nicola also enjoys sharing the magic of the Icelandic gaits in the ring or out on the trails.

  • Amanda Lamoureux

Amanda teaches English and Western lessons and is available both at Old Maple Farm and off site.

Given her extensive background, Amanda will be able to help you develop skills in Working Equitation, Dressage, Eventing, Hunter/Jumper, Pleasure Riding or Trail Riding.

Amanda works primarily with beginners ages 8 and up as well as intermediate and advanced riders looking to hone their equitation skills.

  • Harriet Shipman

    WORKING STUDENT

Harriet took her first riding lessons with DJ Jesser of MoonRise Therapeutics in Taftsville, Vermont nine years ago. DJ’s kind, horse-centered approach fueled Harriet’s innate love of horses.

Since then, Harriet has explored a range of disciplines, from dressage to Icelandic sport to fox huntingto eventing, much of it with her Icelandic horse, Vikingur.

In addition to taking care of the daily paddock clean up, Harriet is excited to work with horses and students both in the ring and out on the trails.

Harriet is currently working on a project with Amanda Lamoureux training a Connemara cross, Cosmo, to jump.
